Murphy second in championship after difficult weekend in China
Greg Murphy currently lies in second place in the Asian Formula Three Promotions Championship following the fifth and sixth rounds which took place this weekend at the Zhuhai track in China.
Murphy, who finished in second place in the fifth round yesterday, was shunted off the track by championship rival Moreno Soeprapto during the sixth round earlier today.
Starting in second place on the grid, Murphy made a great start and was leading the race until the closing stages when his Dallara was hit from behind by Soeprapto sending him spinning off the track and causing a lot of damage to his car. Greg was unable to re-join the race allowing Soeprapto an easy win.
The result puts Soeprapto in the lead of the championship by three points from Greg heading into the next rounds which take place in Indonesia in August.
Greg was philosophical about the accident:
Greg arrives back in Dublin tomorrow and will begin preparations for Indonesia.
Update: June 20, 2005
Following the incident where Moreno Soeprapto pushed Greg Murphy into the wall and retirement, the race stewards have decided the incident was avoidable and Soeprapto has been fined $500 and had two thirds of his points deducted.

Greg was philosophical about the accident:
"Obviously I'm terribly disapointed. I was leading the race, I felt like everything was under control. I was very happy with the car and it was a pity that the accident happened. Unfortunately it's part and parcel of motorsport, accidents happen and you've got to put up with it and move on to the next race. The most important thing is that I'm still right in there with a great chance of winning the championship after six rounds. We're off to Moreno's home track next which will make it a tough challenge, but I'm confident that barring any more off track antics I can do well out there."
