Greg Murphy Leads Asian F3 Promotions Championship after races in China

Greg is now leading the Asian Formula Three Promotions Championship after the third and fourth round races which took place at the Zhuhai circuit in China this weekend.

As we posted yesterday, Greg won the third round of the series on Saturday and he finished in second place in the fourth round on Sunday morning Irish time. He now leads the championship by seven points from Indonesia’s Moreno Soeprapto.

The next round of the Asian F3 Championship takes place on June 18th 2005 back in China.

Greg gets back in Dublin tomorrow. Speaking from a bar in Hong Kong watching the Spanish Grand Prix, Greg said he was delighted with how the weekend went:

“It’s fantastic to be leading the championship at this point. I was really thrilled to register my first Formula Three win on Saturday but it was just as important to follow that up with a strong performance on Sunday. The second race was difficult with a major incident at the start so to get second place was a great result. It's nice to be leading the championship but it's still the early stages of the season so there's a lot of points to be won and lost yet."

We'll be posting photos of the action from China on this site in the coming days.

Greg Wins the Third Round of the Asian F3 Promotions Championship!

Greg Murphy won the third round of the Asian Formula Three Promotions Championship at the Zhuhai circuit in China earlier this morning. Murphy, who qualified his Minardi Team Asia car in third place, made a great start and took the lead on the opening lap, a lead he never relinquished. The win puts him into the lead of the Asian Formula Three Promotions Championship, ahead of the fourth round which takes place in China on Sunday morning Irish time.

Greg was thrilled with the result:
“My first Formula Three race win is a memory that I’ll always cherish. We had some problems in qualifying which left me in third place, but thanks to a good start I was able to sneak into the lead on the first lap. Leading from the start can always add a bit of additional pressure, but I was lucky enough to keep it all under control. I’m thrilled with the result but I’m here to win this championship and tomorrow is a completely new challenge. Right now I’m putting my focus on getting a good result in that race to keep my championship hopes on track.”

Murphy will qualify for the fourth round of the championship on Sunday morning with the race taking place at 13.35 local time (6.35am Irish time).
